[Step by Step: Direct Downloading in Safari]

When surfing on the internet, sometimes we get to certain media files and would like to download the and store them directly on our computer.

However, depending on your browser's setting, the embedded files would likely autoplay instead of download. This could be video (.mov, .mp4 etc), audio (.mp3, .mov), or even lash (.flv). Because of the tight integration of browsers and their players - from quicktime player to flash plug-ins, sometimes it is not easy to download them.

There are two steps to doing a direct downloading these files:

i. you'll first need to find it;

ii. you'll have to be able to download it.

Finding the file is not difficult, given that the html code of the page is written cleanly. All you need to do is call up the source code and look for it.

However, because of the tight integration of player's plug-in within browser, even if you find the file's direct link, ie http://abc.com/xxx/yyy/zzz.mov , putting this link onto the address bar would only call up QT player within your browser and play the file.

The follow steps would help you download such embedded files. This is for Safari browser.

1. Go to Winwdow --> Activity (Alt + Apple + a)

2. You'll see all the tabs within your current safari window listed; each on its own tab

3. Go to the tab that contains the site you are visiting.

4. Click the button until the triangle points downwards, all the files (html page

5. Click option + double click the file you need

6. This should bring up your download window and files should be downloading to your hard drive now.
